Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 5 March 1988. Coggs talks of his early life in Louisiana and of his school, military and work experiences. He tells of his marriage, divorce, wife's death, and relationship with his son. He discusses his views on religion, his conversion to the Mormon Church, and its influence on his life.
